Yesterday I was driving home from the Hallmark store purchasing the necessary "anniversary" extras needed for my Anniversary Gift for my husband. Monday, will be our 8th Wedding Anniversary! I was sort of in a hurry because I only had so much time to go home drop off what I needed to, use the washroom, have Donovan go potty and then get back in the car to pick up Norah at school. The car in front of me going down the 25 mph speed limit road was annoying enough to drive the speed limit. Didn't she know I was in a time crunch? She could have gone 30 mph. Ugh. Me, being annoyed, was driving a little too close I must admit, hoping that would push her along down the road just a wee bit quicker. Then she slows down even more, I was more annoyed but backed-off because I got what she was probably trying to tell me - "back off 'jack-ass'". Then she stops, at this point I was more annoyed because she dead stops without giving me a turn-signal warning. Then I look out my side-window and I see this little baby bunny - hopping across the street. This bunny was no bigger than a person's fist and it was hopping across a busy road as slowly and casually as if singing to itself - "doe, de, doe, doe, doe." Then the bunny got close to the curb and attempted to jump up to the top of the curb, instead it ran smack into the wall of the curb. My first reaction was to laugh, but then I really honestly felt horrible because I don't think the bunny was tall enough to jump up the curb and I was seriously worried that it might become a victim of a car tire - and then "hawk meat". I contemplated stopping and helping the bunny up only to think twice at the thought that if I did, and it still was "tight" with his/her Mom, he/she would be "shunned" for me having touched it. So I kept on driving. Meanwhile, the slow poke driver in front of me drove about a block pulled into the drive way and turned around. My guess was to go back and make sure the poor bunny was okay.
Today when driving down the same road I looked on the side of the road hoping to "NOT" see the remnants of the bunny laying in the gutter of the curb. I was happy to see "no such thing" when I drove by.
I decided that next time I need to leave myself more time to do things I need to do, not drive so closely behind cars, and be the good Samaritan to the creature in need!
Sometimes Lauren is that bunny and I wonder if people will stop and help when the time comes... and if she'll let them?
ReplyDeleteGood point, great analogy Robyn.
