Wahoo, Made it Past the 7 Year Itch - Happy 8th Anniversary

There was never a doubt in my mind that I'd ever have to worry about the "7 year itch" in my marriage.  I'm 99.9% sure that Jon could say the same thing.  (At least I hope so!)

I married quite late in life by "normal society standards".   I was 36 when I took that step down the long aisle with my Dad to meet Jon.  I was more than ready to make a full time, life long commitment to my best friend in the whole world 8 years ago today.  I waited a long time to find my soulmate.

This year, celebrating our Wedding Anniversary is fun, but for a very "odd" reason.  I'm enjoying it because my daughter thinks it's so cool.  She's been counting down the days to Jon and my Anniversary for a couple of weeks.  She was so sweet, she made a cute picture of Jon and I and on the back she wrote, Love Norah.  Because she has put so much effort into wanting to "celebrate" this day, she's brought back all the fun memories of that day and I truly wish that I could go back in time and add her to the fun we had, because she would have so loved to be there celebrating our wedding.

The days started out as a beautiful sunny late summer Friday morning.  I woke-up bright and early and picked up my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to be at their hotel and all three of us went to get our hair done for the day!  The ceremony was at 11am and I barely made it to the Church on time.  Poor Jon had thought I was going to fly the coop and leave him at the altar.  Instead, my father needed that one last nervous pit stop before we could leave the house.  Then of course, a train crossing slowed us down a bit.

I got there with just a little bit of time to spare.  All was good.

We had a beautiful ceremony that was the perfect blend between a Catholic and Jewish Ceremony.  We were rather lucky to have fallen into the right Priest and Rabbi to allow this beautiful blending of wedding sacrament, ceremony and tradition.  My Aunt Helen told me several times that Jon's and my wedding was her absolute favorite wedding she had ever attended.  Made me smile to hear such kind and complimentary words from a woman who had attended a host of weddings throughout her 89 year life.

My Church was gracious in allowing us to build a chuppah for the ceremony.  My Dad, Jon and I spent a weekend building a simple chuppah that could be assembled and disassembled in a matter of minutes.  The florist decorated it beautifully with flowers and my Mom spent the summer nursing potted annuals to display around the chuppah.  It looked beautiful.  The chuppah took a very simple and plain Church and made it a garden of flowers!

After the ceremony we were able to take pictures in a local park near my Church before the rain came down in buckets!

The rain came down in a fury causing much flooding - but Jon and I were safe in our rental Jag.  The rain stopped for a moment so I could get into the reception without getting wet and then it came down again and again for at least an hour.  We all were safely enjoying a nice luncheon reception at Windows on the River, so it didn't much matter what mother nature was doing outside.

By the time the reception was over, the rain was gone, the puddles had dried up and we were ready to party some more at my parent's house.  They had an after the reception, reception.  Full spread of "dinner" foods for all to enjoy.

They say rain on your wedding day is "good luck".  Married life hasn't been 8 years of 24/7 wedded bliss - I can't complain because on all the bad days I got to share them with and deal with them with my best friend, Jon, by my side.  All the good days, I got to share them with and celebrate them with my best friend, Jon.  So I'm thinking that the rain must have been good luck after all!

Happy 8th Anniversary Jon - I love you!
