Talking Politics Again ...

I confess once again that I hate politics, find it boring and the people to be so fake.  And a waste of my valuable time!

However, when it gets thrown at you because all the major networks have to tune into the Annual Presidential Address, I am forced to pay a little bit of attention.  Just once, I'd like to see one of the major networks just skip the whole political B.S. and air their regularly scheduled program.  That would be interesting!!!

So what I typically hear when I watch such "garbage" is the sound Charlie Brown's teacher makes when talking - "whamp, whamp whamp whamp ... whamp".  Then I just sort of people watch rather than focus on the words coming out of the President's mouth (doesn't matter who the president is - I'm an equal opportunity ignorer no matter what side of the floor he sits on).  I only watched maybe the last 15 minutes of the speech.  And as I was panning the group of politicians, I was surprised at the lack of sophistication in many of the people, especially the women.  The women dressed like spinsters.  Lets face it many of the men looked a bit "dorky".  It was just a shock to me.  I figured that politicians had this sort of "flare" for the outward appearance as we all know that many people vote on how a person looks rather than their actual qualifications.

Then of course, I noticed how much President Obama has aged in 3 years.  Its something I've witnessed in all the Presidents who have taken office since President Clinton.  I only followed his presidency because he made for great Entertainment Weekly/People Magazine stories.  I have no earthly idea why a person would want to run for president of the United States.  I think many people have this glorified view of being the leader of this lovely country of ours but then they walk in to the Oval Office, get briefed on all the things the rest of us are not privy to and realize they are "screwed".  It's almost an overnight transformation, this physical change in appearance of the President.  Then looking over the President's shoulder last night I see his side kick, Vice President Biden who is got to be one of the most fidgety people and the picking of his nose was just a sight to behold.  On the other side, the Speaker of the House - you could tell he was bored out of his gourd - much like I was.

I turned to my husband and said, "Watching this address would make for a great college drinking game!" -too bad I'm well beyond college!  I get that this address is formality and part of the governmental process, but does anyone really believe that whatever rolls off the tongue of the President (again, I'm speaking about any president) is actually going to happen?  In my adult years, I've only seen lip action.  It's so hard to hold on to every word the President says because it isn't going to become reality.  Why?  Because we have so much polarity in our Congress and Senate, that nothing will ever get done.  It's much like the mouse in the wheel that just keeps running in the wheel but getting absolutely no where.

Of course, people had to dissect the speech this morning and make calls into the radio stations, etc.  So many people blame the current President for the mess our country is in.  So unfair to pin this all on one person, the whole lot of them are egotistical morons, incompetent and self-serving.  Most of them lack integrity!  This spiral downward began many years earlier and we frankly tanked as a Country from the decisions and lack of action by the previous administration - wouldn't have matter who was President, there was no way to clean up this mess in such a short period of time.  It would have taken a "Jesus Miracle" to turn things around in 3 years.  The one thing that I got out of the speech last night was that President Obama was calling for his fellow constituents on both sides of the floor to start working for the betterment of the Country and not just for the "parties" they represent.  A novel idea and one that I wholly support - but it will never happen, at least not this year, since it's an election year.

I'm thinking this election year, I may have to exercise my right to NOT vote!  Not one person on either side has impressed me.  Four years ago, I was marginally awed by Obama and his ideas only to be disappointed that very few, if any ever made it to fruition.  I can't and won't solely blame him, because he has had no support whatsoever from the other side.  But still, I feel he's been passive and very quiet, unlike so many Presidents before him.

But we, the United States, better wake up because there are so many countries that are gaining momentum and will drag us down as they become increasingly more powerful.  The only way to survive is to work together, just like President Obama said in his speech last evening.

This will definitely be an interesting political ride.
