I'm not going to throw the radio station under the bus by telling you what station it is...
This morning I was totally flabbergasted by the "poll" they decided to take. I thought this poll was in such poor taste that I had to hold myself back from making a phone call, texting, email or facebook messaging them. It was one of those situations were you count to ten slowly and calmly before acting out of extreme annoyance.
The poll you are probably wondering was ...
"Where do you think Joe Paterno will end up? In Heaven or Hell?" At the time I turned the radio on, it was 68% Heaven, 32% Hell - just in case you wanted to know the unscientific poll results.
Really??? Was that necessary???
If you read my blog a couple of months back when the Jerry Sandusky story made the headlines, you will remember that I am a supporter of Joe. I feel like he got sucker punched by the media and was unjustly crucified. It took me some time to accept that him stepping down from coaching was probably the right thing to do by the University, however, I still think he was a scapegoat. For people to sit there and judge him and decide if he belongs in Heaven or Hell is just ludicrous. Tasteless and extremely insensitive to his family at this time during their great loss.
He was a good man who erred in judgement as did many of his fellow colleagues, although we don't hear much about those individuals. I think I can say this with confidence, that all of us at one time or another have turned a blind eye or deaf ear to something we probably should have taken more seriously. Joe Paterno did so much for the University, for his players and the community at large. The media, unfortunately, will forget the many good things this man has done and focus on the one thing that so many people at Penn State erred in judgement, yet he becomes the lone scapegoat.
How sad for an "entertainment show" to think that conducting such a poll is entertainment!
To you the unspoken radio personalities on the unspoken radio station, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
To the Paterno family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you during this great loss. Coach Paterno was a good guy, I don't doubt that.
