Today after dropping off my little man at preschool, I made my way back home. There is one road that I like taking called the Crocker/Stearns Road extension. Mostly because it gets me home quickly but I see the wildest things on this road, such as deer crossing, Canadian geese crossing and my absolute favorite "Wild Turkeys" crossing.
For some reason, the "Fall" season brings out these silly critters - the Wild Turkey. Last year there were 3 turkeys that lurked around this particular area. I heard a rumor last week that the Wild Turkeys have made an appearance and I was so looking forward to seeing them again. There is something about those Wild Turkeys that make me smile and I look forward to driving down the road just to catch a glimpse of them.
This stretch of road also comes with the occasional "hiding" and "radar shooting" police officer. As I made my left turn onto the road, a police car turned on his flashing lights and was making a U-turn and stopped his car right in front of me about 200 feet away. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, was I supposed to stop behind him or move into the right lane and pass his stopped vehicle. Then he got out of his vehicle and "low and behold" and I kid you not there stood on the side of the road in the opposite lanes to where I was driving were 4 mammoth Wild Turkeys. And when I say - "Mammoth"- I mean they were at least 4 feet tall, each and every one of them. I so wanted to take a picture of the police officer shooing them off the road and into the "woods". It was certainly a sight to behold. I thought about stopping my car and photograph this with my "smart phone" but decided against it because I didn't want to anger the police officer into giving me a ticket for obstructing traffic and for making fun of what he was doing.
So I drove slowly by the stopped police car, shaking my head and laughing (the police officer was not looking my way, by the way) and then a car passed me by and the older woman was doing the same thing.
Thank you Wild Turkeys for the good belly laugh this morning! Hope to see you again soon!
... and I bet you thought I was going to talk about bourbon, didn't you!
You definitely need to move here. We have flocks of wild turkeys in the "neighbourhood". If they're not in the neighbours alfalfa field, they're up the road in the soy beans. I love it when the toms get all full of themselves and throw up their tails. Oh wait! sounds just like a human male!!
