My son Donovan was named by my daughter Norah when she was about 21 months old. Jon and I had a short list of names and the name "Donovan" was on it. As I was reading off the very short list of names to Jon in front of Norah, she stops me after I read the name "Donovan" and said - "I like that name, Donovan!" Then she proceeded to call the little guy growing in my belly "Donovan" from that day forward. So when he arrived on July 14th, 3 years ago, it was hard to put another name to him since for the last 4 or so months he was called "Donovan" by his big sister.
The name caused a few noses to become out of joint - because the only Donovan most people have ever heard of was Donovan McNabb and he's a professional football quarterback. So everyone thought my son was named after Donovan McNabb, not quite. I'll admit the name became "noticeable" because he was the quarterback of my husband's beloved home team, the Philadelphia Eagles, but he is not the reason the name was added to our short-list. The name Donovan just sounded good with the last name "Hyman", just had a nice sound to it. Secretly, I was pleased that my Norah liked the name and was calling him that well before he was born, because it made it that much easier to bestow upon my son the name, Donovan when he was born.
Since he was born, I've had so many compliments on his name, as I do with Norah. To me, the name is very important and the first gift we give our children. Everyone knows Donovan after they have met him, the name and the person just fits perfectly.
Donovan is a blend of sweetness and stubborn determination. He may be little but he is one mighty little soul!
Ever since Donovan has been able to talk, his favorite color so happens to be "yellow". I hear about every yellow car we pass when driving, he sings "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles - and typically demands the yellow crayon when drawing.
Today the 1960's Scottish folk/pop-singer "Donovan" was nominated as a potential 2012 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is famous for one of his songs "Mellow Yellow".
Could it be? - that for some strange reason my son is infatuated with the color "yellow" because of Donovan Leitch's Mellow Yellow song, or maybe it's just coincidence. I personally vote "coincidence", but I thought it was so funny how my husband, Jon put the two together after hearing about Donovan's nomination into the Rock Hall today.
Just had to share to maybe at least put a smile on your face!
