We've waited since August of 2011 to acquire our newest addition to the Hyman Family.
As many of you know, we had a Black Lab named Zoey. She was the perfect pet a family could ever have or want. She set the bar so high that we know any other pet that crosses our path is "screwed". She was my best friend, confident, sounding board, verbal punching bag (I'm not proud of this) but through it all I loved her more than I have ever loved another pet in my life.
It took some time to mourn, and accept that Zoey was gone. The kids pleaded for a dog - their hearts mended much quicker than mine did. Mine isn't completely healed but I'm in a good place to accept another furry member into my home, life and heart.
The evening we went shopping to purchase a crate, toys, food, etc. for our newest member, a vizsla named Loula Mae, my heart sort of skipped a beat as I still was feeling a bit "unloyal" to Zoey and her memory. After each of us (Jon, kids and I) proclaimed our excitement over only having a week or so before we get to meet Loula Mae, I was feeling a bit guilty - when we got to the next store and we stepped out of the car, a "black dragon fly" flew around all of us. It nearly took my breath away - I know in my heart it was Zoey telling me, go enjoy this puppy, love her, care for her! I'm okay with it! You have my blessing.
I'm finally at peace.
Last week, the breeder sent us more recent photos of our little girl, she is a picture of cuteness in every way! I can't wait to cuddle up to her and shower her with love and affection.
He also told us … "Your girl is a real spitfire and an exceptional pup with tremendous potential in the field...but should also make a good companion in the home. If you ever had any inclination to compete or even hunt over her, she has the skillset to be successful, that's for sure!"
We weren't planning on "hunting" with her, since Jon and I aren't hunters but are feeling a bit obligated to allow her to compete in "the field". So we'll see how things go as she grows-up as to whether or not we'll get her trained in the field. I would hate to not let her do what comes naturally for her.
If her looks are anything like her personality, I think she'll fit in perfectly!
So in three days we'll call her our own and love her, be kind, gentle to her, teach her to be a perfect pet and we'll do the best we can to be perfect owners!
Loula Mae will have her own blog coming soon!
Hooray! You're newest baby! Glad you get to bring her home soon!
