Tonight we had the pleasure of hanging out with several of the "lower school" Lake Ridge Academy families at the Lake Erie Crushers baseball game!
First of all, if you live on the west side of Cleveland or from one of the western suburbs of Cleveland - you have to attend at least one game at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, OH. What a neat way to watch America's favorite past time, albeit it minor league (Frontier League) baseball. The stadium is quite the intimate way of watching baseball, every seat in the house is "perfect". The price of admission is affordable, as is most of the concessions!
This is the first "real" baseball game Donovan has ever gone too. A nice easy way of easing my son into what is my favorite professional sport - baseball! I use to be a serious die-hard Cleveland Indians fan back in the day! Now I barely have time to keep up with much, let alone professional sports - you know the "mom thing" gets in the way!
I always wanted a little boy to sit and watch sports with me, and maybe one to cheer on at little league games. I'm hoping I'll at least get to watch Donovan play T-ball. Not sure his Hematologist is going to be keen on him playing baseball, at least not "fast pitch". But if I have to settle for him sitting next to me in a stadium seat cheering on the Cleveland Indians or the Lake Erie Crushers, I'll be tickled none-the-less!
Tonight I got my first real Mommy-Son baseball joy! Donovan was standing close to the field and outfielder, player #5 (aka Rogelio Noris) handed Donovan a ball. Just like that, the player handed Donovan a ball. Talk about a little boy beaming with excitement! He came back and showed me his prized baseball. When Jon came back from purchasing our concessions, he took Donovan over to meet the player and actually got his autograph!
Donovan was so excited to show me the autographed ball and told me that he was going to cheer for #5!
Unfortunately, #5 wasn't starting this evening. Lucky for us, he was sitting in the "bull-pen" area in front of us. Donovan saw him and wanted to go down and say hello. Here are a series of pictures of Donovan trying to get #5's attention.
My favorite is this picture when #5 turned around and saw Donovan! He was genuinely pleased to see him again. Which made it all the more special for me! As a Mom, I wanted to run over there and hug #5 for making such a special moment for not only Donovan but for me as well!
Donovan came back and told me that he told #5 that he needed to go play in the game! Too cute and too funny!
Tonight will go down as one of my favorite summer of 2012 things we did as a family!
Thank you Lake Ridge Academy for organizing such a fun event!
