One thing I liked about my husband when we were dating was his ability to be "silly". I think its important to be silly in life and he was exceptionally good at being silly. I'm a pretty serious person by nature and I gravitate to people who can see the silly side of things because I need them to help balance me out. Sometimes my husband has a warped sense of humor but more often than not I find his humor to be fun and silly. He made me laugh a lot during our dating months!
For example, when I was probably 20 weeks pregnant with my daughter, I was already finding that I couldn't wear my wedding and engagement rings. My hands swelled that much and the fear of having to have them cut off me just made me take them off and store them away until after the baby was born and I could fit into them again. I hated the fact that I looked like a single pregnant woman without my wedding ring on. I would go to Church every Saturday night with my parents while my husband stayed home because he isn't Catholic and didn't want to drag him to church. I always wondered what the people around me thought. So one day I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to buy a ring that looked like a wedding band to wear while I was pregnant. Nothing expensive, just something simple to wear until I could fit into my rings again. We were in Philadelphia, PA visiting my husband's family and happened to find ourselves in the jewelry department of Strawbridges Department store. So we stumbled upon the "cubic zirconia" engagement and cocktail rings. So I picked out a very modest engagement and wedding ring set that looked similar to my real set. My husband comes up to me and says, "hey if you're going to get yourself a new wedding ring, go big"! He picks out this 3 carat cubic zirconia "diamond" engagement ring from the display and gets down on one knee and begins to propose to me. Given my very "pregnant" condition, I obviously agreed to marry my husband once again, and I did this in Strawbridges' costume jewelry department! If that wasn't humorous in and of itself, after the clerk completes the transaction of our purchases of the engagement wedding rings, she asks "do you want a box for it?"- my husband says "oh no thank you, she'll be wearing them out of the store - have to make an honest woman out of her since I knocked her up and all!" The older couple across the way who was waiting for the clerk to help them, both dropped their jaws. At first I was embarrassed and felt the need to explain but didn't I just laughed. I didn't need to explain anything, it was our moment and we were just having some good fun and being silly!
This past winter we were invited to a "wig" party at a local bar for some friends of my husband's birthday celebration. My husband was given to borrow a couple years ago a sweet mullet. Given that my husband is as bald as one can be, the mullet was just plain silly! I purchased a platinum blonde rock star wig and wore it that night. Since getting a sitter is so difficult for us, we decided to go to dinner in addition to the party. We decided to wear the wigs all night long. The looks we got at the restaurant were priceless. Some people thought we were "freaks" or needed to advance our "styles" from the 1980s. We had fun and we may very well do that again some time!
So now it gets me to last night. I had a doctor's appointment with my primary care doctor. It was just a follow-up appointment nothing serious - just to go over my blood work and just to see how the medicine I've been on has been working for me. My husband rarely joins me on doctor visits, no need to. Anyway, I asked him if he wanted to join me last evening because we were having some issues with the pediatrician's office at the same clinic, and lucky for us our primary care doctor is the director of the "clinic". My husband agrees to join me and my parents agreed to watch the kids for an hour or two. So off we go to the doctors. When we get there, we go up to the receptionist and give her the necessary info and then she asks for the copay. So I turn to my husband and ask him if he wants to get this or should I pick it up? He turns to me and says, I got it! And then proceeds to tell the receptionist that "some women get diamonds, I pay for my wife's copays!" Then tells her our - evening at the doctor's office - is Date Night.
So after our long chat with the doctor (which was very informative and helpful on all fronts) and we get back into the car, I said to my husband - well this was a fun date night! To which he replies "nothing says I want you more then when we are talking about your cholesterol with the doctor!" I laughed, because the whole imagery of that just made me giggle from the core!
I love my husband because he manages to find the "silly" in the most mundane acts of life. I love him too because he's a good husband and father, my best friend and cute too!
No doubt your husband is so funny in a cute way.. Wow... hehe
