My husband and I were having a conversation while preparing dinner last night about what brings me happiness. I spent the last couple of weeks searching for the right "theme" for my kids/guest bathroom. When you have a girl who likes princesses and Peter Pan and a little boy who likes Buzz Lightyear and friends and only one bathroom I had to get creative and try to make it gender neutral and for all age ranges.
I'm guilty of watching HGTV shows and it's frustrating when I don't have $10-20,000 just laying around to decorate my home. I've had to wait patiently to do each room in my house when we could afford to decorate it. My latest project is the kids/guest bathroom. It needed a lot of attention since it had only contractor crappy white paint on the walls and an old curtain rod from when I lived in my condo. We built our house in 2004.
I did some searching online and at stores and finally settled on a pattern I liked only to find out that the pattern must be discontinuing because not one store had all the necessary pieces I needed or wanted. The only place was Dillard's department store but their prices were unreasonably high in comparison to the other merchants. I also had a limited budget set in my head. So I went back out did some more research and stumbled upon a shower curtain and accessories theme I liked a lot. So I ordered it up and have been waiting ever so patiently for it to arrive. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting today. Fingers crossed that it will arrive today or tomorrow - as I can hardly wait!
So based on the picture, we purchased paint and I went ahead and painted the bathroom. It's a very warm yellow shade with an orange undertone. I just walk in the room and it makes me smile. The shower curtain is "green" but has lots of circles with red, orange, yellow, lime green, and brown imbedded in. Very modern and very cool! So keeping in mind this is our children's bathroom, I decided to use the Princess and Toy Story theme by purchasing frames in primary colors of red, orange and green and printing out our favorite pictures from our Disney trips. They turned out so awesome! Not sure why a "builder" wouldn't add a hand towel rack to a bathroom, but ours didn't so we purchased two super cool looking "robe" hooks and mounted them to the wall. I might add we did this and hung the pictures without my husband and I having a fight. We are getting much better at doing projects together! It only took 8 years of marriage to get there! The next part of the project was to find towels. So I looked around online to find towels in the colors I wanted - orange, red and yellow and lime green. To my pleasure and excitement - Target had them and I didn't have to break the bank to get them. When I got home yesterday I had to run up and put my towel purchase to use in the bathroom and man does it look awesome!
I can't wait now until the shower curtain, rug and bath accessories arrive. I will post pictures when its all complete.
So back to my conversation with my husband. I told him that he has no idea how much joy and pleasure I get out of decorating our home. It makes me happy! He said to me, you are not a complex person - I knew that about you already! Basically saying, that's why I let you do these things without any issues!
My simple pleasure is decorating but doing it within a tight budget and it coming out looking sweet!
sounds very cool! I am slightly green over the idea of having a kid / guest bathroom. `course I guess I should aim for having a guestroom in general first, worry about the bathroom later!
