Eight years ago when my husband and I were putting together our wedding registry we added the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer to our "wish" list of gifts. Sadly, no one purchased one for us.
For the last eight years my husband and I have watched the "ads" for this wonderful kitchen appliance and the price was just too much, even on sale. We both agreed that purchasing a household appliance was not a respectable gift for each other for Christmas, Hanukkah, Birthdays or Anniversaries (well unless the Anniversary specifically specified "appliances").
My hand mixer is about shot. I tried to make chocolate chip cookies and you can hear the motor struggling. I suppose after 14 years the hand mixer is allowed to die a dignified death. Still with this hand mixer struggling, the cost of the Kitchen Aid was still out of our "price range". To my surprise, I opened up the Sunday circular a couple of weeks ago and low-and-behold the Kitchen Aid mixer was on sale at Macy's and with our charge, we could get an additional 15% off. However, the mixer was the 4.5 quart version instead of the 5 quart, not that 1/2 quart was going to make that much of a difference in what I would use this for. My husband likes to price compare so he looked up the mixer on various other stores' websites and stumbled across the grand-daddy of deals! Amazon dropped the price of the "black" mixer and it was the 5 quart one too. We paid close to $200 less than what the mixer typically sells for - all because the mixer was "black". Lucky for me, my kitchen has stainless steel and black appliances! Score!
So a week later, I get my stand alone mixer FINALLY, after 8 long years of waiting. This mixer will come in handy since my son has a gluten allergy and I have to make more "homemade" things!
Did I say that - I LOVE THIS MIXER!? My daughter and I made gluten free cupcakes for dessert tonight! And the mixer was just so easy to use. No more contorting my body to hold a hand held mixer, bowl and spatula!
Colleen, I still use my grandmothers pink electric mixer - I love it because of sentimental reasons (of course) :) It was good to see you...Cousin, Karen
