True, Story .... My husband, I kid you not, scheduled the cable guy to hook-up cable at my condo (we lived in my condo after we married) for the day after we returned from our 12 day Ireland Honeymoon. He neglected to share this information with me, until we had a problem with our return flight home - which had us landing in New York City instead of Baltimore and our connecting flight was with a different airline departing out of Baltimore. We landed in NYC sometime late in the evening with no opportunity to hop on a plane home that Friday night. So my husband was very stressed out (see it was U.S. football season) that we wouldn't get home in time and he didn't have the phone number to call and let them know we'd need him to arrive later in the day, not at 9am. Long story short, my husband ended up booking us a flight out of Newark, New Jersey at 6:30am so we could get home before the cable guy showed up. God-forbid we'd have to wait another week for cable! T.V. just wasn't that important to me back then.
So now that I'm a stay-at-home-mom - the T.V. is my friend. Its usually on all day long just for background noise as I really don't have time to sit and watch it. Or my kids will watch T.V. intermittently while playing. I do, as I embarrassingly admit, watch a soap opera while I exercise for 30 minutes in the afternoon or when I put my son down for a nap, he naps on the couch because he likes to snuggle with me. I agree to do this, because life is too short, and I'll miss the day when he decides naps are no fun and snuggling with mom isn't cool!
Well, my husband likes all the bells and whistles when it comes to T.V.'s and cable - so he opted for the cable option that has the DVR (digital video recorder). I have to admit, I love love love this feature. I can watch any show I want once its been recorded. So most of my T.V. viewing is days after its actually aired. The other real cool feature is that I can rewind a show if I can't hear something (and yes, my hearing has started to go) or if I miss something, or want to show my husband something that was on the T.V. moments before, and to fast forward commercials, of course! I'd have to say that 80% of my T.V. viewing is through playing back whatever was recorded on the DVR.
I find that when I'm listening to the radio and I miss something, I'm looking for the rewind button so I can replay it. And its not existing. The other day, my kids were doing something that looked rather amusing to me, but I didn't catch the whole "act" and I so wanted to be able to "rewind" so I could play the whole scenario over. In both situations, I found I was so very frustrated and was thinking - how life would be so much easier if I had a rewind button like we do on the DVR. Not to mention, there have been days were I wish I had the "fast forward" button available like we do to fast forward through commercials we don't want to watch.
**Sigh** - if only everything in life could be captured on the DVR and came with a universal remote control!
