Donovan is pretty shy when it comes to kids in his preschool class. He doesn't have much in the way of friends, then again, he misses a lot of school with illnesses so its hard to make friends when you're not in class on a "regular" bases. In fact, its hard for me to make friends with the other "moms" because I'm not there as often as I was when Norah was in preschool. Plus, Norah was much more outgoing so she sort of helped nurture my friendships with other moms because she was making friends with their child.
So today was Donovan's school friend's birthday party. The party was at a local bowling alley. My husband, Jon, immediately jumped in and volunteered to take Donovan to the party. I was sort of bummed, but then again, Jon doesn't get to do much of these things with Donovan (or Norah for that matter) so I graciously let him go even though I would have loved to be there to see him enjoy his first friend's birthday party.
Donovan and Jon were the first to arrive at the party and his friend was so excited to see him and gave him a big hug. He also gave him a big hug when Jon and Donovan left. This warms my heart. Knowing how "shy" Donovan is with kids his own age, it made me feel good that he is making friends.
Below are a few pictures that Jon was kind enough to text me.
Donovan's first bowling attempt! He apparently knocked down 7 pins. |
This was right before he got a spare or "spike" as he calls it. |
Awwhhhh, I love this! What a great first for him!! Loved the part about the hugs :)
