Bathtub Snowman ...

A couple of years ago, I came up with this awesome idea.  The idea was a result of making a promise to my 3 year old daughter that I didn't realize I was going to potentially have to "eat crow" given the state of the weather that day.

My daughter is a lover of snow.  She loves to play in it and eat it (to my dismay).  Was a huge lover of snow since she was a baby.

Our winters are rather weird.  It's either too cold and snowy, not enough snow or it melts before we can enjoy winter activities in it.  Often times the snow is "powder" and not good packing snow so you can't make a good snowman.

My daughter asked me 2 years ago if we could make a snowman when her baby brother was napping.  I told her we could and that I'd love to, not realizing that the temperatures were in the single digits with subzero windchill.  Not conducive for a 3 year old (or for me) to be out in the cold trying to construct a snowman.

But, .... I made a promise and I try so hard not to renege on my promises.  Just who I am!

So I came up with this wild but fun idea ....

I took a large pail with me outside and carried the snow inside the house and put it in the kid's bathtub and started constructing a snowman.  Several trips up and down stairs and out the front door with my bucket and I made my masterpiece.  I found a hat that Norah use to wear when she was a baby, her mittens and two wooden kabob skewers, grabbed some grapes, strawberry and a matchstick carrot from the refrigerator to give the snowman some personality!

I must say it was a brilliant idea.  My daughter thought it was super cool.  The snowman lasted long enough to get a picture and for Daddy to see it and it then melted away down the drain and all I had to do is rinse the tub and it was good to go!

Last year I wasn't afforded the opportunity to do this fun activity because Donovan was in the hospital for the better part of February, when our snow seems to really happen.

Today, Norah had a play-date with an old preschool friend after their acting class.  We had probably our biggest snow storm of the season overnight and during the day.  So I thought it would be fun, in addition to the "Valentines's Tea Lunch" to make a snowman in the tub.

This time I thought I'd be "smart" and bring several containers with me and fill them up with snow so I only had to go in and out once.  With the help of Jon, we managed to carry up four containers of snow and I began to construct the snowman so the girls could dress him up.  This time we used the "fixings" from a gift the kid's got for a Christmas last year.  The snow wasn't as cooperative this time, took a lot more effort to construct the "body" but I did and the girls got to decorate him and they enjoyed having the ability to play with the snow in the tub after we got a picture!

Thank's Jon for being a trooper, I know this isn't what you envisioned for your Saturday!
