This should be another "pool" week with the warm sunny weather. As summer is quickly winding down, at least for us since Norah starts school on August 17th, I wanted to get in as much pool time and summer fun before she heads off to school for the next nine or so months. The pool was out of the question yesterday and today because Donovan has a cold virus. I'm wondering if the pool is where he picked up the cold virus in the first place.
The kids were laying around and watching a movie all morning long while I prepared baby-back ribs, exercised, showered and dressed. We have doctor appointments late afternoon so I put on a summer dress and made my way downstairs. As I was coming down the stairs I look out the front door and I saw the sun was out in all its glory. I'm like really, we're in the house watching a stupid movie. What can we do that would be different and fun?
I asked the kids if they wanted to go on an adventure? They immediately hopped off the couch, turned off the television and proceeded to the mudroom to put on shoes. So I'm guessing they were just as bored at watching the movie as I was watching them watch the movie. They wanted to know what we were going to do. I asked them if going on a rock hunt would be something fun. Norah was all about it and Donovan usually agrees to whatever Norah likes to do. If it requires that he gets to hold a bucket and pick up things from the ground, he's pretty much game!
I drove to our Metroparks and parked the car. We went for a little walk and I found a path that lead us down to the Rocky River. When we got to the water's edge the kids were so excited to see millions of rocks and a few sea shells thrown in there for good measure. There were all sorts of neat rocks that sparkled in the sunlight and that made Norah so excited. I have to admit, I was pretty excited to see the sparkly rocks too!

We filled the buckets up and then went on a little walk through the forest. Donovan was feeling a little punk after while so we cut our adventure a little short. I think we got enough rocks for our first excursion.
I'll have to seek out another location and next time I won't be dressed up in a "dress". I'm sure I looked ridiculous to passers-by!
So what do I plan on doing with these treasures we gathered today. I'm contemplating a way to use these rocks as a backsplash to my bathtub in our master bath. My husband thinks I'm crazy but where there is a will there is a way. I'm sure I'll be able to grout something together using these fine treasures my little buddies helped me to find.
I love adventure days like that. I'm hoping I can be a fun mom again when I'm not so pregnant:) My poor kids have really suffered this summer...
